Sniff, walk and chats in between

Yalooo, Princess here on the keyboard.

April 28 — My Saturday started with a rush. The wind sez woooo-woooo as I was  movin’ swiftly across the countryside in semi-darkness. Nope, I didn’t ran away; my overseer put me in a backpack, mounted on a steel steed and vroommm for about less than half an hour. (I decided long ago that she’s ekksentrik… so I expected an interesting outcome of whatever she’s up to.)

When we got there (Agora Maranding-Kapatagan), the air was filled with doggy-scents. I poked out my head…and lo… I saw folks with pets of various sizes and shapes stretching, pacing and littering the pathway. It turned out that this was the first gathering of Saturday Dog Walks of the canine club in the province. Here’s some candid shots:

With all the walking going on, its also nice to stop and do a bit of grass-sniffing…

…then again not everyone enjoyed this walk – just look at that pooch on wheels…

Meet Toby, a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix who thought riding a vrom-vrom gets lotsa attention…

…he sez “why walk when ya cud ride; it’s cooler and makes me taller than the big dawgs” … hmm maybe he thought he could cheat on height so as to be taller than  this Great Dane who lived in my town but whom I’ve never met until now.

These two black Labradors donned so shiny coats. One was American and the other British; both liked the nose-nose greetings… Mr. Judd (the one with the white shirt) pointed out the similarities and differences between these two playful cousins…

Meanwhile, the Belgian Malinois Ricky left) and Supremo (right) preferred to bark their greetings at a distance…

After half an hour (6:30 a.m.), some humans and small pooches decided to rest from all this walking in circles…and waited for snacks and water…

As I watched all the actions around me, I realized why Vanilla Bean liked to attend this sort of gathering…too bad she missed this one…

Monday Mischief: princess charcoal

Image

Hi. Keanna here reporting for the Monday Mischief. (This post would’ve been posted earlier if not for Cassie’s recent mild Mastitis.)

We had occasional rain-showers for the past week; so we’re glad when the sun decided to show up last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The sun shone brightly and gave us a temperature of 31°C… which means our humans had an opportunity excuse for  grooming us pooches. Big momma gave Princess a thorough bath, she scrubbed her until her coat was white as cotton… that was last Saturday…

Early Sunday morning, this greeted Twinkle…

Our overseer didn’t show any reaction at all (not a good sign!…); it seemed she barely notice some details because she was busy collecting our food bowls and preparing our breakfast… and Princess relaxed…(she thought she could successfully get away from a sound ear-bashing…)

However after breakfast, Twinkle saw a rare sight — me so clean and smell so nice while Cassie… well, she had soot on her limbs…

…then, Twinkle saw a movement in her peripheral vision… she turned her head toward this… a dirty pooch scratching like crazy… Still, she gave no reaction… (definitely not a very good sign!)

Later that morning…

…Princess was soooo busted!… Twinkle caught her sneaking near the source of soot  in the storage area…  I told her to stay away from that box of charcoal but she didn’t listen…

Snoopy's Dog BlogTwinkle threatened her another thorough bath… but the DogAngel helped the pooch and caused the rain clouds to drizzle… again…

Monday Mischief: the usual suspects

Image

Hi, Keanna here reporting for the Monday Mischief.

Our sala and kitchen are the most traffic areas in early mornings (especially in school days). With at least 4 humans moving about, it’s next to impossible to pull some mischief there without being caught. However, thanks to Snoopy’s Master Class Series, a certain house-pet was able to get away with mischief by applying rules no.4 [get a good accomplice] and no.5 [never plead guilty]. She asked me not to reveal her identity in exchange for her beef-bone heheh…

Application of Snoopy’s Mischief Rule no. 4

When Cassie managed to open the sliding door, the rest of us pets got inside the house. As usual, we headed straight to the kitchen and greeted our overseer with morning kisses and wags. Twinkle was so preoccupied with us and our breakfast meal preparation that she failed to notice the mischief happening at the sala. After serving our breakfast, she spotted this…

someone did a pee break at the sala floor

Application of Snoopy’s Mischief Rule no.5

Since Cassie and I never left her side from the kitchen to our crate, Twinkle went after the usual suspects – the ShihPoos…

Snoopy's Dog BlogBoth unleashed pets were outside the house for the night doing guard detail. So, who do you think intentionally wet the floor?

Butchok vs. Princess, ShihPoo playfight

Aside

“He dragged me here to check on the girls,” Madeline said when she and her pet dropped by at our house last Saturday morning. “I guess I have to leave him here for a few hours. Just phone me when he whines to go… my daughter will fetch him,” she added.

So, Butchok the Shih Poo missed a few hours of work (he’s a therapy dog you know) to hang out with the Poodle-mix pack. He lost no time sniffing and lifting his leg here and there, revisiting the areas he marked a week ago…

Then he went to see the gals at their crate…and they greeted him with a series of ruff…ruff

Cassie and Keanna gave him their formal greeting when I let them all out. Then, my two pets ignored him. Princess, however, displayed her enthusiasm in his presence… She even invited Butchok for a play-fight. Here’s what happened…

At the vet’s clinic

Image

August 20, LALA, LDN — We showed up at the JMC Veterinary Clinic 10 minutes before our appointment.  However, I received a text message from Dr. Jane apologizing that she would be late for she was on a house-call at another town. She also informed me that her schedule got screwed that day but she would met us at the clinic by 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.

Okay, so I guess we’ll just have to preoccupy ourselves while we wait for one and a half hour for her. So, we looked around the premises.  Princess and Vanilla Bean sniffed here and there … and we heard barks from small dogs at the crates and from a spotted gal… The Shih-Poos were eager to get near the dalmatian’s crate but I discouraged them to do so… We saw other crates with white rabbits, small dogs, birds, etc. from a distance.

Inside the clinic, we also skimmed the informative chart frames about responsible pet ownership and various types of canines in existence around the world. By 4 o clock p.m., the vet sent a message that she’s on the way to the clinic. Thank God, for it started to drizzle.

Dr. Jane greeted us with a warm smile. Then, she injected Vanilla Bean some vaccines against Leptospirosis; Canine distemper, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. The vet praised the pooch for her good behavior and even give her a treat (much to the puppy’s delight). She then weighed the pets, and found out that Princess was around 5 kg (yay! she gained 1 kg) and Vanilla Bean around 3 kg. With regards to Princess’ shedding, she prescribed a multi-vitamins for her coat.

Chokie, Vanilla Bean's litter-mate

We were about to leave by 5 o’ clock p.m. when Chokie arrived for his appointment. We humans didn’t recognize him at first for he had more hair than a month before. Princess and Vanilla Bean, however, got excited for they knew his scent. They sniffed butts in greeting, and then moved on in play-fight for the next five minutes. Then, we had to say goodbye to him for it’s getting late..

vaccination certificate, still incomplete for now...

Revisiting RCMS2

Image

I was resting on my favorite divan watching NCIS re-runs on Fox when Princess the Shih-Poo gave me this look — a but-you-promised-me face. Okay, so I did promised her for a second “exploration with no leash attached” at the RCMS school grounds last weekend. It made me think, dog don’t forget, do they?

By late afternoon around five o’clock, we (I, my 2nd grader nephew Kenji, and Princess the Shih-Poo) move on foot at the school grounds. I was a Sunday afternoon, yet we noticed that some of the teachers were around busy on improving their respective rooms. Princess behave well unleashed, sniffing here and there.

Princess got to the old H.E. building which was now the school’s clinic. The ‘3Rs for Garbage Reduction‘ sign is really informative. Also, I noticed the old Talisay tree (Terminalia catappa) still stood there. It is also known as Indian Almond; various ferns, mostly Bird’s Nest ferns, benefit from its shade.

Kenji invited us to go near the flag pole. No Philippine flag flying at the end of the pole. Still this old platform is a nice spot to take photos. I’ve enjoyed my years grade-school here, and apparently seeing my pet’s expression, she enjoyed romping here too.

Wordless Wednesday: Revisiting RCMS

Image

August 6 — I took my dog Princess for a stroll at RCMS (Rufo dela Cruz Memorial School) last Saturday afternoon. My nephew Kenji, who is now a second grader in this school, acted as our tour guide. I felt my pet’s excitement as she saw the school ground, the several kids hanging around, the old buildings and trees.

My alma mater got its name from the first mayor of Tubod, the late Rufo Dela Cruz. This institution holds a special place in my family’s history because most of my relatives were once teachers and pupils here. My grandfather Cirilo R. Vergeire taught Arithmetic while he was the Head Master in 1932 to 1968. In fact, he was the second Principal of this school. My grandmother Cecilia (grade three teacher), Aunt Visitacion (grade six teacher) and my mom Perla (H.E. teacher) were also part of the faculty here several years ago.
