Windy with a chance of fun

Image

Hi. It’s me, Vanilla Bean.

For a week,  the PAGASA informed us that a strong to gale force wind would affect our weather here in Northern Mindanao; that our region was in the tail end of a cold front.  I didn’t understand whatever that means. However, I was really praying that if ever those dark clouds hovering the Tubod skies would wet on us, I hope they would do so on evenings and not during my late afternoon walks.

(You see, my rain-allergic walker (Twinkle) often cancels this impawtant schedule at a slight drizzle… sigh… I often think she has kitty blood…) Mum-Princess and I often gave her its-time-for-my-walk look; we did that to Kenji, too… everyday at 5 o’clock p.m… This week, they took us to RCMS (the nearest grade school and the next best thing to a dog park). Here are some photos of us having fun… Kenji walked me; I like him because he could walk and run…fast. Along the path, we saw several kids hanging around; they thought I’m a boy!… really? Also, we spotted the school custodian’s dog; we didn’t sniff butts with him, though.  He barked at us to inform that the school gates would close by dusk.

I noticed many wild sparrows swooping the green area… and I just couldn’t resist running and chasing after them… weeee… it’s so fun… Meanwhile, mum-Princess was busy sniffing…
The setting sun and the strong wind signaled us to go home… Reluctantly, we followed our humans out of that place. So how about you, how’s the weather affecting your fun?

RCMS street dogz

Image

Hi. it’s me, Vanilla Bean.

During my afternoon walks (and my ran-away drama last Monday morning), I learned several important facts about the dogs in my neighborhood:

  • some dogs claim an area of MY street… and they could be hostile even to cute pooches like me;

this dog thinks she owned the east corner of our block

  • the RCMS street dogz are about 20 off-leash mutts that like to hang-out along the street during their off-duty; the members either live in the same house or they are neighbors;

they enjoy running together... without collars and unleashed!

  • most of them are bigger and weigh heavier than Cassie the Mutt;
  • they could think, move or run faster than any of us gals;
  • they have superb dodging skills (necessary to avoid moving vehicles, dog-nappers, etc.)

ruff...quit following us!

  • they use their eyes, ears and noses better than me… hmmm… I guess they are good at tracking, too…

2 of them mutts are still following us....

Anyway, Twinkle always distracts my attention away from them during my walks… so I could focus on sniffing new scents… So, how about ya? Did ya have a great weekend?

Cows and football

Image

Hi. It’s me, Vanilla Bean.

I’ve seen them moo-cows before…but I didn’t expect to come across them late this afternoon. They were grazing some of the freshest grass off my usual trail…nothing unusual about that… However, I just couldn’t help but notice that something was off with them… so I took a closer look. This was what I saw:

up close and personal with the moo-calf but keeping distance with 'broken horn'

…the brown calf had a hairy hide and he wasn’t shy to take a whiff at me… Meanwhile, I noticed that ‘broken horn’ cow eyed me… ooo that horn looked deadly… so I cautiously moved on… I doubt we have a famine in our area…but how come he’s soo thin that his ribs were visible from where I was standing…and so was this other cow…hmmm…life must be tough to some mammals…

sniffing with caution

After the trail, Twinkle and I dropped by at RCMS. It was late in the afternoon but the school-ground was still littered with kids… kids who were having fun…my kind of crowd… We found Kenji sitting on the grass; he was watching his big brother EJ with a group of kids kicking and chasing something round…

fun and run and ruff...that's a huge ball!

I gave Twinkle my i-want-to-play look so I could join the fun but she wouldn’t let go of my leash…sigh… oh well, I’ll just go ahead to the blog hop to see what fun other pets were into…

Meeting Doggitz the chihuahua mix/poodle mix

Image

I was a bit sad yesterday afternoon when I heard the news. Disney, my Auntie Juliet’s top dog, died when a car ran over him just outside his home. Poor thing… he was only five years and four months old…we will surely miss him. Nevertheless, his offspring bear his legacy as a faithful, loyal, intelligent and handsome dog.

One of those pups is Doggitz, a male chihuahua mix/ poodle mix. He just turned 2 years old last September 18 (he and my nephew Kenji have the same birthday). Liza Ortiz (Doggitz’s human mum) brought him around the house to meet me and the Poodle-mix pack.. I also got to see him in his guard mode at the RCMS Canteen last September 4… Here’s a slideshow with over 30 photos of him; it’s entitled “Doggitz Out and About”…enjoy:)

Revisiting RCMS2

Image

I was resting on my favorite divan watching NCIS re-runs on Fox when Princess the Shih-Poo gave me this look — a but-you-promised-me face. Okay, so I did promised her for a second “exploration with no leash attached” at the RCMS school grounds last weekend. It made me think, dog don’t forget, do they?

By late afternoon around five o’clock, we (I, my 2nd grader nephew Kenji, and Princess the Shih-Poo) move on foot at the school grounds. I was a Sunday afternoon, yet we noticed that some of the teachers were around busy on improving their respective rooms. Princess behave well unleashed, sniffing here and there.

Princess got to the old H.E. building which was now the school’s clinic. The ‘3Rs for Garbage Reduction‘ sign is really informative. Also, I noticed the old Talisay tree (Terminalia catappa) still stood there. It is also known as Indian Almond; various ferns, mostly Bird’s Nest ferns, benefit from its shade.

Kenji invited us to go near the flag pole. No Philippine flag flying at the end of the pole. Still this old platform is a nice spot to take photos. I’ve enjoyed my years grade-school here, and apparently seeing my pet’s expression, she enjoyed romping here too.
